Here are some festivals we think are worth travelling to around the country, big festivals and little festivals. Festivals are listed according to date and not by category or interest. Click on the name of the festival to go to the official website.
August 6 to 15
FEATURED FESTIVAL - Kilkenny Arts Festival
10 days of the very best in Irish and international visual art, clasical music, theatre and dance, jazz, world & traditional Irish music, literature, film, architecture, indie music, craft and children’s events.
Kilkenny Arts Festival is not what you think.
If you like the idea of:
- Waiting eagerly in the crowd for Tindersticks, Damo Suzuki or Adrian Crowley to play live
- Being transported by an incredible art installation courtesy of 2010 Turner-prize nominee Susan Philipsz
- Hearing Robert Fisk give the annual Hubert Butler lecture
- Singing your heart out in St. Canice’s Cathedral – or listening to the breathtaking technique of young Finnish musicians like pianist Antti Siiralaor string quarter Meta4.
- Seeing John Banville, David Vann, Hugo Hamilton, John Boyne, Andrew O’Hagan, and Joe O’Connor discuss their work
- Engaging with Mali’s Ballake Sissoko and his magical kora playing.
- Mesmerising children’s events with Derek Landy and Liam Ó’Maonlaí
- Watching a day of Gabriel Byrne films on the big screen
- Being blindfolded in a wheelchair for a once-in-a-lifetime theatrical experience
Then we’ve got the festival for you.
Running from the 6-15 August 2010, over 23,000 people flock to this 10 day cultural extravaganza every August. Do you want to be one of them? Then go to www.kilkennyarts.ie for more info on what we’ve got in store for you.
